The Mackay Benevolent Society provides low cost accommodation for aged pensioners, that is you must be on the aged pension to qualify.
The Society has two locations, one in Evan Street in South Mackay, close to the City, and a second in Bridge Road, West Mackay, close to the Base Hospital. Each location is made of up of 21 units, some single and some double. Each unit is separate and self- contained, with space to garden on some occasions. There is some parking for residents.
The Society is not supported by or influenced by the Government, or any other organisation. The sole income of the Society is rent.
The Management Committee is made up of volunteers, who take no remuneration. The committee looks after the administration of the Society including management of rates, insurance, maintenance, etc.
